Synopsis

This global story of fame, fortune, and musicals, is all about the moral lines we all cross to feed our ultimate humanly desire. The Show is a powerful and engaging story conveyed through song and choreography.

The production is the second most frequent performance ever to be presented on Broadway, outranked only by "The Phantom of the Opera". The Performance portrays the story of two rival and vaudevillian dancers named Velma and Roxie locked in jail for murder.

While Velma is already a popular vaudevillian performer, Roxie is a struggling performer trying to build her fame. Although they both committed murder they had different incentives. Velma's intent was heartbreak and betrayal after finding her husband and sister having an affair. Meanwhile, Roxie's motive was calculated ambition and ruthlessness. Thus unlike Velma's action, which was driven by chaos, Roxie's strategy was deliberate, and was intentionally used to attract fame.

Interwoven in the plot, Chicago also shows the clandestine game played by law enforcement and civilians. Roxie's and Velma's lawyer Billy Flynn, who excels at defending female prisoners accused of murder, is seen turning the trial into spectacles, by altering his clients' hearing into sensational shows composed of drama and pity.

While Matron "Mama" Morton is depicted assisting the two felons build a connection with the outside world, mainly with Billy, and exploiting the other prisoners for her benefit.
